Description:

Fort Fisher State Historic Site and Battlefield in Kure Beach and the Friends of Fort Fisher host the 152nd Anniversary of the 2nd Battle of Fort Fisher. This one-day living history event — Desperate Bravery and Brilliant Valor — features Civil War reenactors; infantry units discussing camp life and garrison duty; and firing demonstrations. Artillery units will oversee periodic firings of the site’s 32-pounder cannon, the 12-pound Napoleon cannon, and a 12-pound Parrott Rifle. Rod Gragg, author of Confederate Goliath: The Battle of Fort Fisher, is the program’s keynote speaker (11am), followed by historian and author Richard Triebe (2:30 pm). The event also includes guided tours, kid’s activities, and photographer Harry Taylor, who will demonstrate period photography with his 1860s mobile wet plate studio. Program subject to change.
